I am travelling to SEA in February-good time of year! However, a friend of mine was hoping to travel to thailand in May for three months. I accidentally broke her heart by telling her its the monsoon season at that time, and it would not be so pleasant. On the other hand, I travelled to India in the monsoon season and only got rained on twice, by choosing our destinations carefully. Can anyone tell me what thailand would be like in the monsoon?
Am traveling around this time myself (for the first time)for about 3 months , ive asked the same question and she has nothing to worry about.
SEA is hot all year round even in monsoon season. In may you will prob only get about an hour a day and that could even fall in the night time. But it also depends where you are in SEA as they all have monsoons at different times, so if she is in north vietnam it will be hot and dry in may from what ive read in lonly planet , but in parts of thailand it will be raining a hour a day or so , so i suppose she could plan her route around the countrys monsoons if she wanted ,but i doubt she would have to do that. She will have a great time non the less with plenty of sunshine , you never know she might be gratefull of the odd bit off rain.
The month of May will be fine but very hot. You might get a short shower in the mountains in the day and maybe more rain at night. no worries. prices are cheaper at that time for hotels and tours.

thanks for the responses guys,
I think that it may be dangerous to swim in the sea during the monsoon season though. As the currents are very strong.
No worries about swimming, it will be the south west monsoon, so the andaman sea could be a littlebit rough by Phuket, Krabi, Koh Lanta, Koh Lipe, Koh Adang etc.etc.
On the east coast as Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh chang, Koh Samet etc. you will be fine.
The current on the west coast will not be very different, you only got more wind and waves.
