i have heard tourists paying comissions to locals for their reservation.
why do they? tourist shouldnt pay any comission

strange. actually, commisions are paid by the hotels or travell agencies to the ones that book for a tourist, but not paid by the tourist himself.
where did you hear that ?

In most countries, the hotels, taxi companies etc...pay some commisson to individuals who regularly bring customers to them.This is normal practice.However, some individuals take cmmission from both on some pretext( like saying that the hotel is fully booked due to high season but i can get one for you..something like that..) or other.But this is rare and doesnot happen often.
