Im wondering what is the best way to get into Bolivia from Brazil?
I have read that you can go through Paraguay but i fear that December is the rainy season in Paraguay and roads may be inacessible.
Any ideas? I heard about this "death train" on a thread in this forum linking Bolivia to Brazil. is that more practical?
In the rainy season, the train from Corumbà from what i've heard is your best option. Roads in the border area between Bolivia and Brazil are as bad as those in Paraguay, if not worse.
Hi, don't know about death train. However, December is Paraguay's summer. Each year I spend 3-4 months (Nov -Mar) in Asuncion.PY and only get a few days of rain although when it rains it really pours!!
You will know there is no railway in Paraguay other than a Sunday tourist train that runs a few miles from Asuncion to nearby Luque at 10 am and returns about 4pm.
The 'death train'is not bringing you to Paraguay. It is from Puerto Suarez to Santa Vruz only.
Normally December is in the middle of the rainy season, although that does not any longer means you will hit rain... Last 2 times I was in the area in the middle of dry season it was pouring down! so forget about the seasons. If it does rain you will have a nice story to tell later. Either the 'road'parallel to the death train or the ones from Bolivia to Paraguay, are a nightmare as it is lots of clay (which is about impassable when wet). Once in Paraguay it is not as bad as the roads are sand, not much clay
