From Thailaind travel down to makasia - PERHENTIANS are amazing-stay in Kecil. Then the Cameroon Highlands, Kl, maybe singapore?
I did thai-malasian trip and was amazin. Chaing Mai, Koh Phan Ngan (Tong Nai Pan Noi-heaven), Koh Tao for a bit of wild partying.
We also did Borneo and brunei. Stain on Mabul island and dive at sipadan - i dont think i will ever beat that experience.....difficult to get to but worth it. Do a 'safari' on kinabatangan river, travel to turtle island. Borneo is incredible for those kind of experiences. Not a party place tho - not really any bars just Chang and tiger beer!!!
Then go to Gili islands in Indonesia - again incredible!
From Thailand get around Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos, before traveling south.
If possible get a 2 or 3 month tourist Visa for Indonesia. Why?
Only if you would like to take this route:
after Indochina travel to south thailand, further to Malaysia, cross malaysia to Singapore. Get over to Yokyakarta. Cheap flights with Airasia from Johor Bahru (malaysian Border town to Singapore). Travel Java, Yokjakarta, Borobodur, Celikap, Bromo etc. and continue to Bali. Bali and Lombok, and later a flight to Australia from Bali.
That's only a idea.
u have to take into mind where you want to go after thailand. what i did was i started from thailand and specifically chiang mai in the north and then travelled to the south this way i saved on dual transportation. bangkok is so cheap as well as other places in thailand. then from there i went to the south to phuket , krabi etc. then i flew to sabah(kota kinnabalu) coz i wanted my trip to finish in KL. so i travvelled eastern malysia into penninsular malaysia but i presume u shud do the opposite as u said u wanna go to australia. so the best part wud be to go from the south into malaysia( though u shud the security first as they have a slight problem there).anyways man all these places r crazily cheap but u shudnt always feel guilty not to bargain. u know in malaysia the inter city bus tickets r fixed but what i used to do was spot a half empty bus just check the times as to when u wud find them and speakl with the conductor as to how much he wud charge u. u can easily save around 30-50 % of the bus ticket. also check online ticket rates from air asia coz at some times its convenient to travel by air than bus and the rates r conpetitive but be prepared to book atleast 45 days in advance thats when u find the cheapest rates.
I suggest go to China. You can travel around Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, etc. No matter the luxury trip or hiking. You can see the beautiful landscapes, and know the long history of China.
i have been travelling around se asia for the last 12 months and still going! in my opinion if thailand is the place you have to start then ok... if not start in Nepal and then go to Bangkok followed by Cambodia, Vietnam and then Laos, from Laos you can enter thailand again in the north and see Chiang Rai & Mai and then work south towards to Koh Tao, Koh Pha Ngan and Koh Sumui and then cross over to phuket, koh phi phi and the krabi area...
afterwards head south into Malaysia and get a flight straight into Borneo, Borneo is amazing, far better than peninsular malaysia in my opinion, if you fly to Sabah you can then go to Brunei and then into Sarawak, from Kuching in Sarawak fly back to the peninsular and take in the Perhentians and Tioman before heading to Singapore which is my fave city in the world!
from singapore you can take a flight with jetstar asia either to Oz or if you prefer Bali... Bali is a great island, i only had two weeks there which wasnt enough, we spent some time in Kuta and then went to Amed and Ubud, Ubud is gorgeous...
from bali either explore more of indonesia and possibly the phillipines or take a flight with air asia to oz...
thats what i would reccommend anyways, hope that helps!
cheers for all the info, i have now more or less got my route planed. Its likly to be thialand, then fly to hong kong then back to thiland and then to laos, vietnam, then cambodia. After all that back into southern thialand then heading south through malasia and singapore lastly to indonesia then fly over to oz that is the plan any way!.
thx for the help
