heres the thing, im from southern california where we really dont have any sort of train systems, so im clueless about them. Im going to amsterdam and will most likely be arriving by myself (my friend is taking a different flight). Is there a train station AT the airport? im so nervous because of the different language, will i be able to read the signs? From what ive gathered so far, i will need to get to centraal station and then just walk to my hostel or hotel from there...please help me, is the train system easy to understand? Will i be able to find the right station right out of the airport, or will i be stuck crying in a corner somewhere because i will have no clue what to do?!?! help me!!

Oh, yeah? Maybe its time to take a trip down to Union Station in Los Angeles.

Were you not able to find any information online for the airport? Most train systems and airports have online information; many in English (certainly Schiphol, Amsterdam's airport).

I haven't looked, but if there is no train, then there will be a bus. Don't worry too much about language. There will be lots of signs in English (I am fairly certain) and many Dutsch (certainly those working around travellers) speak English quite well.

As the page Kevin linked to also says, Schiphol train station is directly below the airport. You basically walk out through customs, follow the signs to "main hall" / "public transport" or somesuch, buy a ticket at the yellow automatic vending machines that are clustered all around (note: at schiphol they take creditcards, but they don't at other train stations, so make certain to have cash or a debit card for the return trip)), and take the escalator down to the trains. (Look at the big information sign for which track has the trains to Amsterdam (presumably?)) It's supremely easy and very well signposted, and announcements on the trains to and from Schiphol are in English as well as in Dutch.
