Well, I was pretty happy to be the first person in Australia to make a pledge on the UN's Billion Tree Campaign ;)

Quoting UN

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is launching a major worldwide tree planting campaign. Under the Plant for the Planet: Billion Tree Campaign, people, communities, business and industry, civil society organizations and governments will be encouraged to enter tree planting pledges on this website with the objective of planting at least one billion trees worldwide during 2007

A billion trees may seem like a lot, but in fact replacing the trees lost by deforestation over the past decade will require planting 14-billion trees every year for the next ten years, according to the UN.

Currently 14,182,271 trees have been pledged..

How many will you add?

It may seem like a drop in the ocean, but don't forget the ocean is made of drops!

So, by making the pledge that means they will plant the trees? My problem with the program is it doesn't solve the problem. Which is "Deforestation"... just planting a field of trees doesn't make a forest, it makes a field of trees. My opinion is all..

No, you have to pledge to plant your own trees. Of course it doesn't solve the problem of deforestation, but it does do a lot in terms of awareness and when it comes down to it, every tree does count for something.

Oh you have to plant your own trees, that's a new take on it. I agree as you say every tree does help in it's way.

A great idea, but are people planting trees or plants?

Excellent.

I'm in the middle of some major landscaping in my backyard, and will soon be spending a small fortune on trees. I'll add these to the list.

Now when you say "plant a tree" do you actually mean plant-a-tree, or simply just plant a tree. what kinda tree, like a tree tree or a treeeee?

"plant-a-tree" ?? Is that an American thing, because it makes no sense to me?

Your pledge would be to physically go outside, dig a hole and plant a tree in it. And then ensure the tree survives.
