re hostel: never heard of it
re bikes: not recommendable, the Bonairese drive like madmen. MUCH safer to go on foot
re taxis: don't know exactly, but it's sure cheap. The stretch from Obelisco to the far end of Cordoba once cost me only ARS 10. Be sure you only take official (numbered black-and-yellow) cabs, btw
re Mataderos: you have no business there as a tourist except for the fair, which is silly if you ask me.
re drinks: everything and more. Try the Argentine wines and beers, and don't skip the cocktails
re restaurants: if you want cheap, stay in San Telmo or the poorer barrios around it. If you want traditional, get WAY outside the city center. If you want international food, consider Palermo and Pto Madero.
Thanks for your post.
I don't know that hotel in San Telmo, but it looks nice from the outside...
check this place for bike rental:
Taxis have a minimum of $2,16 and it charges 24 cents per 200 meters (two
Mataderos is a working class neighborhood christened after the most important economic activity that takes place there: slaughter houses.
However it is well known among travelers for its amazing traditional open air market and fair that takes place during the weekend. There you will enjoy great food, live folk music and lots of craft shopping...It is about
25 minutes by bus from San Telmo without traffic on Sunday or may be more during the week... You can go by bus or by taxi...
Let me know if I can help in anything more, hope you enjoy your trip to BA, BOB
