A Harpie is a greek mythological creature with the lower body, wings and claws of a bird and the chest and head of a woman, often portrayed as very ugly and loathsome. They were fierce, ill tempered and contaminated everything they came near. In a famous story they tormented King Phineus who had incurred the wrath of the gods. They swooped down at this table and snatched his food before he could eat.
Luckily for him, he was resuced by Zetes and Calais who drove them away. So you see, being called one is not exactly complimentary !!!
And no I'm not in Troy but am actually planning a visit in the spring of next year - finances allowing!
Shopgirl, thanks for the explanation... But who would call someone a harpie, I mean who called you that?
Hey you know what, these last few days I've been thinking of adding Turkey to my travel plan next spring. My Turkish friend has really intoxicated me and I am very interested to go, especially when I found out that things are cheap there - because I will be on budget.
Maybe we can go see Troy together
Actually I was called it by a really good Aussie friend of mine and he was only saying it because we were exchanging a few challenging e-mails to one another and I was definitely winning in the banter stakes!!
He didn't mean it to be horrid - just in fun (well, I hope so anyway)
would love to go there with you, or meet up when there. Will keep you posted on my plans next year and we'll see what we could do.!!
