Travel Forums Asia Red head in thailand!!

Hi all!

Im heading to Thailand in January for 6 weeks. The thing is I'm a natural redhead. Just wondering if anyone has any problems over there? I know it sounds strange but I went to Turkey a few years ago and I had major problems. Not just with people touching it and trying to cut bits of it off but up to the point where people were offering money to buy me! madness! Just curious if they will take any notice in Thailand or am I beter off just to wear a hat to begin with?

My friend is a redhead and has just spent 3 months in South East Asia including Thailand without any problems so I think you'll be fine. Around 12 million people visit thailand every year so I think they will have seen plenty!

Back in '91 I had blonde hair(now gray) and did get some attention when in rural areas. The Thais would bring their children up to me just to touch my arm hair and see a blonde farang up close. I felt like a celebrity! Unless you go to really out of the way places, the Thais have now 'seen it all'. You should be fine.

I have blood hair & blue eyes & I had quite a bit of attention in Malaysia & Indonesia, all positive though! They wanted to have pictures taken with me.

in turkey having red hair means you're lucky, or that you bring good luck. which is generally the opposite of what most folk think ...
