I just returned from the Philippines, for me the hotels were more expensive in the Philippines than Thailand. The beer was a little cheaper in bars with lots of happy hour pricing and daily specials.

Hong Kong hotels are expensive. For me, McDonalds was the only cheap place to eat at. If your hotel has a morning breakfast buffet you have a good deal!! Pig out at the buffet and eat in the day.

hong kong is very expensive to eat, drink, and sleep but is a great place to visit. i stayed in hostel in chung king mansions on nathan road for 40 or 60 (i forget) yuan. expect to pay around 70-100 yuan for basic meal in decent restaurant with drink.

depends where you go in the philippines as to cost. post your destinations and i can give you more info. manila is expensive for hotels, i stayed at a decent one for about 1200 pesos/12 GBP. not much to do in manila so don't stay there long. palawan is supposed to be excellent but i didn't go i went to puerta galera, tagbilaran on bohol, siargao, and moalboal on cebu. all great places. you'll have a great time. pete

Hotels in Manila are indeed cheaper than those in Makati (the central business district). I believe most guest/pensionne houses within the metro are located there. They are nearer some of the interesting spots to visit like Intramuros, Baywalk, and Corregidor. However, you might also want to consider staying in one of the business hotels in Makati.

There are nightspots in Manila (Malate and Baywalk) and in Makati (Greenbelt, The Fort, etc). Those places offer good options for nightlife - live bands, hiphop clubbing, chillout drinking, etc. You'll just have to find out which type you prefer, and which crowd you're more comfortable with.

Nothing much to do here, really. You have clubbing/drinking, shopping, or sightseeing (which can be finished in 2 days, tops). But Manila will be your hub to the rest of the Philippines. Take your pick - beaches, dive spots, mountrain treks, etc. :)

Hotel rooms are around P1,000-P5,000 a night. Pensionne/Guesthouses should come in cheaper, obviously. Beer prices range from P20-P100 a bottle. Cocktails anywhere from P60-200. Breakfasts can cost you from P40-P120, while lunches and dinners can cost you around P80-P300 depends on where you choose to eat.

Hope that helps!

hey jonny, malate is the central area and decent bars there. i stayed at hostel 1632 but it is a hotel with free decent breakie for P1200. boracay sounds nice but didn't go due to time. lona beach on tagbilaran is worth a few days and an island south of there is supposed to be excellent but forget name. friendly people at underworld dive centre there will point you in right direction. stayed at asian-belgian resort on moalboal on cebu which was excellent. they have website and are v.friendly. i assume you'll be doing some scuba-diving? flights with cebu pacific are pretty cheap but book a couple of days in advance. ferries are alright but take a long time. hope this helps, pete

Actually in Hong Kong, it can be cheap for hotel and eat. It depends where you want to stay. For eating, you can find many cheap but nice place to eat, for example in Mongkok. Some price is similar to Mcdonald but you can taste local style...^^

I agree, McDonalds is a cheap-ish place to eat, but if you head toward Temple Street Market (I think that's right) there's a plethora of cheap eats, from noodle soups to dim sum. Enjoy.... :-)
