I'm spending a week in Syria in March and was just wondering if anyone had any tips about 'must sees' or any general advice?
Thanks!

Well, assuming that you arrive in Damascus, spend two days here.
Palmyra was a 'must see' for me. It's not just the ruins, but the surroundings and setting is really terrific. Go very early in the morning to avoid 'crowds' (not really crowded). But in March that's not much of a problem.
From there you can go to Deir ez Zor and explore the ruins at the Eufrates river (duro europas for example).

That's possible in 1 week. Otherwise, go from Palmyra to Aleppo for a couple of days, and on the way back to Damascus visit Crac des Chevaliers if possible.

But really spend two days in Damascus and one day in Palmyra is enough.

Have fun! Michael.

A side trip from Damascus shoudl include Krac de Chevalier (SP) amazing castle, greta views - and empty!

Aleppo is also amazing.

You can take a night train from DAM, about 15 U$

Syria is amazing! You will enjoy!

they are all right,Syria is trully fantastic.Krac de Chevaliers is awesome, stay in Hama the night before, nice old town, ancient waterwheels, called Norias, they groan all day and night, quite soothing, believe it or not.Damascus old section pleasant,no hassle from sellers in the souks,Palmyra v.good,Aleppo nice too.beer can be found aswell, its not illegal, but hard to find.My details a bit hazy, cant find my diary.Spent 2 months there in 2002,fab
