Hi folks,

Asia. I am planning to be away for six months mid 07 and would really appreciate a bit of guidance from some of the more seasoned veterans out there.

I was thinking of starting my trip from Malaysia, then heading up to Tailand. From there maybe Louse and Vietnam. It will be my first time backpacking so the more tips the merrier ;)

Hi Gareth,

Welcome to Travellerspoint! :)

Whatever you need to know for your trip next year, just fire away. There are many travellers here waiting to answer your questions. You can also check out the other threads because the questions you wish to ask may have already been answered there.

Since you're thinking of starting from Malaysia, what would you like to know about this place?

Thanks guys.

First Question (oh and I have a lot of them) I'd like to ask about budget. I was thinking about spending three months in the SE Asian region of Malaysia Thailand etc then heading up to visit a friend in Shanghai China. With reference to money, I have every intention of roughing it backpacker style (hostels etc) whilst on this journey and would really appreciate a rough daily budget recommendation (Its a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' type question I know :|) In an attempt to refine it a little...How much can you comfortably (backpacker comfortably) afford to live on whilst in this region?

Second Question. Can anyone recommend some fun things to go see and do in Malaysia? Thailand? Vietnam? Cambodia? Louse? In this context I'm interested in history, culture, thrill seeking, oceans, beaches...err pretty much EVERYTHING!

Third Question. I actually intend to travel to Turkey after my stint in Asia. Has anyone done that stretch via land? Train etc. I'd love some ideas on that one.

Cheers guys and gals :D

Hi Gareth,
I'm pretty new at this myself but I'm planning my trip with lots of train time and I've found to be very useful so visit if you haven't allready ;)
There's info there how you can pretty much go around the world by land so you should be able to find some ideas for your Turkey trip.

Love, Unnur
