Looking for information on travelling through Malaysia, Bali and Lombok. Has anyone travelled there lately and how safe is it to travel there for an American couple out on there own? The political situation in the world being what it is. Last winter we spent two months in Vietnam and Thailand the winter before and it was great, especially Vietnam was wonderful and we felt very safe. We are seasoned solo travellers who love Asia and and would love to see Malaysia and Bali and Lombok but I don't wish to put my wife in uncomfortable, unsafe situation.
It is generally still safe in Malaysia although it is
strongly advised not to walk alone at deserted streets
at night. Cases of snatched thef are on the rise.
Political state wise, still okay. People are friendly too,
especially towards foreigners (sad but true) most shop
asst tend to have double standard when it comes to serving
foreigners and locals. so mostly you will feel very welcomed.
First a little hint:
The Asians like Americans but having problems with America (political & Media). Everyone loves Canadians.
Traveling Malaysia, Bali and Lombok is safe.
Malaysia places of Interest (for a small tour):
+ hundreds of other places
Can be sometimes a little bit disturbing the Taxi drivers and the Guys trying to sell you things on the street. But Bali is still nice, especially places like Ubud.
Nice especially the 3 Gilli Islands
Travelling is about enjoying the places you go to... If you want to travel and already have negative thoughts in your mind about the places you are going to, chances are, you're not going to enjoy your travel...
I came from California, where the thugs and gangsters carried guns and are more hazardous to just anyone, you can be in a wrong neighboorhood as a tourist, and something bad can and will happen to you...
Just pack up your bags, enjoy Malaysia, Bali, or Lombok... They are all are safe places to go to, despite all the things you heard on the media about them! Just remember to smile to everyone when you're travelling!
Malaysia, nice country, good public transport, the bus sucks, the taxi's not that great! But stay in mid-town like KLCC or bukit bintang, and you'll be safe and comfortable...
Bali, nice beaches, plenty of tourists, place to just hang out, have fun, enjoy the people that are so friendly!
Lombok, more nice beaches, more privacy, more quiet...
Just a tip for a good budget airline from KL straigth to Bali, take airasia, find it at airasia.com, buy your tickets online, and you can get tickets from as low as US$ 40 a person!
Well, don't worry about the safety in Malaysia, it's generally very safe. Just becareful of your wife's handbag, coz as mentioned, snatch theft cases has arise.
Don't worry about health too, it's also generally safe, just becareful of the Aedes Mosquitoes, which can cause Denggi Fever.
Well, for places of interest, I would say it depends on your preference, whether you prefer a nature life travel, city sight-seeing or culture, heritage thing. No matter what's your choice, Malaysia can provide it. You can find information on those categories in -snip-
