I am planning to move from Seattle to London (NW11 or nearby) late this autumn. I just found out from a moving company that a ballpark figure for costs would be about $3000 US for 1000 lbs. of freight. Ow! I obviously can't take much with me if I go with them. Does anyone have an idea about what the best way to move one's stuff is?
Using a moving company it cost me about $3000 to move about the same amount of stuff from Seattle to NYC, so I'd guess that your rate is a prettyreasonable to go all the way to London.
I'd recomend selling whatever you can to get the total weight down, and buy new/second hand stuff when you arrive in London. That's my plan when I move anyways.
Best of luck when you move, tell us how it works out cause I am hoping to make the same move early next year.
I suggest that you check with several moving companies - some of them charge by WEIGHT and some by VOLUME. If you take few furnishings, but plenty of books, or if your furniture can be dissasembled and put into flat packets, .volume is a far cheaper alternative.
