Is it normal that the thought of going to the other side of the world alone scares the crap out of me? I've never been away alone before, not even for one night....

Not just normal - I'd say it's necessary! Having the crap scared out of you makes you aware of the magnitude and importance of what you're getting into. Far better to be nervous that blazé - cause you're anticipating something monumental and life changing. Can't go into that without a few butterflies!

Seriously - once you get out there, the nervousness turns into excitement. You'll get your bearings and meet new people and see things that will amaze you... and you'll know you did it by yourself, for yourself. I don't think you'd realize quite how big a gift you're giving yourself if you weren't at least a little scared first.

Hey
I have been in your situation.
My parents were the same.
If u want to travel, then travel. You cant live your life, for your parents, or anybody else.
And u will meet lots and lots and lots of people while travelling. So dont worry, about going alone.

never been alone, for even one night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wow!!!!!
i have spent many nights and days alone. Some were exactly what i need(to get some peace and quiet, to do what i want, without interruption), and some were a bit lonely. But a little lonliness never killed anybody.

I am totally thinking of doing this too. I have been saving my arse off as well. Am thinking of quitting my job and exploring for a year... or so.

If you are interested in a partner.. depending on your time frame.. drop me a note.

Can you email on this system? Or should I post an email addy?

Hey, go for it, you don't have to stay away for ever - you can always come back home, or at least back to your home country. It sounds like you'll have a bit of cash underneath you so you can even do a bit of exploring in a couple of far-flung places on your dream list before you look for work anywhere too
