hi,
I've got to decide my seat for a flight to rio quite soon, and I just don't know where to start on picking which seat to have for the 12hour flight... (economy class)

Any tips/advice from people who have boarded this plane before?
I've read through websites regarding this topic, but I'd rather some first hand responses!
N.B. that aeroplane coffee smell makes me gag - so I know not to sit near the kitchens!

Thankyou in advance!

:)

I have been on a BA 747 but it was business class (thats the seat you wanna go for!) so cant help just as much but there is a great website SEAT GURU which should give you an unbias break down where to sit!

Enjoy your trip!

Heather

Hey heather, I have actually checked that site before, but thank you for the prompt response!
If you've got any travelling plans - hope you have a blast as well!

try to sit close to the front, my favorite spot is in the middle isle between the wing and front isle. you one of the first to get off the plane and your not near the kitchen as its in the back of the plane.

I like to sit fairly close to the front by the window on the left-hand side - I like looking out of the window.

Not sure why left.

The biggest mistake is flying on BA. I avoid them and their snooty attitude like the plaque. Try switching over to VARIG if at all possible (or Virgin if they fly that route). Cheers, Zoom

Sorry, I don't agree. What ever you say about BA they do provide a reasonable service, it may not be the best in the world but the are a dependable airline.
Seatwise, i go for the emergency ones as they have the leg room and i also opt for the isle (you never really see much at the window ans i can get up and wander without hastling anyone).

I'm with Jase. BA are definitely OK.

I thought Varig were in financial difficulties too - personally l would steer clear of them! BA are fine on long haul in my opinion too - lve flown across the Atlantic with them and to Asia. And they provide an excellent business class service.

Excuse me, I'm not talking about "when they're in the air". I'm talking about their "snooty" attitude at Heathrow and how they seem to have a stick up their backside. If your Carry On is 1 Kilo too heavy they freak out and make you split it up and check in half. I thought it was just me till a guy flying business class got the same treatment. He was one pissed off passenger - yelling like crazy, don't blame hm (his carry on was NOTHING - no big deal). I was just starting a 3 month trip through southern Europe (London to Barcelona was my flight on BA - didn't have any problems with the same carry on on the AMERICAN AIRLINES portion: LA - London) and North Africa.

I do Pro Travel Photography and can't afford to lose anything. Now I ONLY use Air France (most of the time Business Class) Non Stop LA - Paris (Paris to India, Paris to Africa, etc) and it's a PURE JOY !! The French never say a word about my carry on at CDG or LAX. Once one AF guy questioned my camera backpack (since I already had a carry on with wheels) and when I told him I was a Photographer and needed to carry on my delicate and expensive equipment he was super cool and said no problem after he goofed around like he was gonna steal my camera - nice to see people act human and joke around, much better than none thinking robots who can care less about your feelings, your comfort, and the safety of your equipment - like at BA).

Also, you can't beat the food or wine (French and French) on the flight. No offense but the best part of British cuisine is their Indian, Thai, and Italian restaurants (but, unfortunately, that's not what they serve on their flights) and they aren't EXACTLY known for their wine. Varig may be in financial trouble (so are all the US airlines as well as Alitalia) but what does that matter. The crew is always great, the Brazilian food and drink beats BA ANYTIME) and the crew doesn't get a joy from hassling their passengers. I've flown VARIG a lot in the past and NEVER had a problem. I don't need any hassles. AIR FRANCE and VARIG don't give me any (Plus Heathrow is an ugly dump - CDG outside Paris is one great looking airport, U2 even used it to shoot their "BEAUTFUL DAY" video there - Haven't seen Heathrow in any video's) Rio's airport is pretty interesting also. Glad you kids like BA, keep flying it - I'm happy for you. I've found something much better IMO. Zoom
