A couple of my Canadian friends have criminal records. Drug possession convictions to be specific. Can they travel to the UK? Western Europe? Eastern Europe? Russia? How much of a problem will this be? Student or work visa are likely out of the question....? I m not sure how rigid the immigration policies are regarding drug charges....I know the US has a no tolerance policy.
If anyone can provide me with any info, it would be most appreciated......thanks in advance.
It may influence their chances of obtaining a visa if they need one, but if they don't, I don't see any reason why they would be denied entry into UK / EU.
If you lie, would they check?
I think it is only the paranoid freaks that are the immigrations people in America that are too worried about something as minor as a drug conviction. I didn't even get asked in any of the places I have been in Europe including Russia and UK. Be warned though with Russia you are more likely when you get in, to need to look out in the distance for cops and cross to the opposite side of the path or road where ever you can legally do it to try and avoid them. If you don't, their is a good chance you'll be stopped, asked to check your travel documents (as carrying your passport is a must) and then they'll tell you a bullshit story about your documents being out of order and you'll either have to pay a bribe, or go with them to the police station and waste a few hours until you'll eventually get cleared.
