Another little thing that grates...

as opposed to:

(Specifically, the correct prepositions and the missing comma.)

I'm sorry Kevin, but it uses your username. Most of us are comfortable with ours and I really don't see it as a problem. I doubt it's going to be high on the list. But, I also understand what you are saying... ;)

Testing :)

Okay, so I need to now edit my testing post as a user, rather than as a moderator.

You're right, that could be worded better. Fixed now.

Hmm... you know what? Different parts of the world use different date formats.

Forget that :) The 'at Nov 20..' was clearly wrong (we had some discussions about the comma) but I don't think we're going to go into quite that detail for the edit note :)

Okay - so I misunderstood the comment completely...

Isa definitely runs away!!!!!

I always thought you didn't put a comma after the year, but the proofreader here tells me one is required. I'd leave out the "on" completely, BTW, and leave it as "Edited Nov. 20...". Neither is wrong, though.

For the username/actual name reference, though, I'd stick with the username. Some people don't put their real names on here, anyway, and it would all get mighty confusing.

You only need one comma if you write the date standing alone: January 1, 2007

Otherwise the year is just like any other parenthetical element -- unless you belong to the school that says no it's not, in which case you might write (esp. for an international audience) "1 January 2007".

I no longer recall what the final outcome was, but I am certainly impressed that someone responded so quickly; he deserves a large helping of green eggs and ham.

Isadora, you did catch my further intent. But I realize this will only happen on That Great Come and Get It Day (won't it be fun when worry is done and money is hay) when TP adds "screen names". Nevertheless, I like to keep the idea fresh in the minds of the TP team.

Basically I'm guessing this will never happen. While on some sites they might make sense, I don't see any benefit for utilizing them here when you consider the confusion it will cause (hang on, there's James, no there's James, wait a sec who is that James etc. etc.). If you're contacting a travel helper, you want to know for sure who you are contacting. Same with a lost travel friend etc. etc.

I'm not saying it doesn't work on other sites, it just makes no sense to change the entire system here for what seems more confusing than beneficial.
