Can anyone suggest a good place to (attempt) to learn to surf near Melbourne? I'll probably need a few lessons and then just hire a board. I'm gonna be in Melbourne from the 7th Jan for a few weeks. Oh - and does anyone have any idea how much it might cost?
Your best bet is just to make you way down to Torquay. This the surf coast of southern australia. From here there will plenty of places to get lessons and to surf. Not sure of prices but with competition you should get a good price.
check out the local paper for second hand boards (if yor learning then somethig big would be good) often they are pretty cheap and about the equivalent of 5 or 6 lessons. check out this link for some tips:
ya... torquay for sure... Where you'll find Billabong, Ripcurl, Quiksilver, Roxy and many other factory outlets
Rip Curl host "Girls Go surfing" days around the country. Girls only and all equipment supplied.
I've friends who've been and recommend it highly.
