Me and my boyfriend have just spent two months in Aus. We spent 4 weeks in Sydney and personally i think that you'll be bored after about a week, yes, its beautiful, you should head to Taronga Zoo, Bondi Beach to Surf, Manly on the Ferry, the coastal walk from bondi to Coogee and the bridgeclimb, this can all be done in around a week and a couple of nights out in Sydney. We then headed to Cairns, and stayed in a little place called clifton Beach, well we loved Cairns!!! The centre, well theres not a huge amount going on but theres lots of things to do! We stayed our last month there and we wanted to stay longer. Port Douglas is around 30 mins drive or something up the coast from cairns, and i dont see that you should do two weeks at cairns and two weeks port douglas because you can do trips from cairns to port douglas, and most trips from cairns i.e. head there to the reef, so i dunno, maybe worth it. On the whole rainforest, cape trib, atherton, kuranda issue, we found it A LOT cheaper to hire a car for three days, this cost us $150 in total whereas trips would have been around $120 each/per day and you can do what you want!! we were only 18/19 too and they let us. We headed to cape trib/daintree on our first day which was beautiful, but well worth a visit is Mossman gorge, a good place to swim and dive off big rocks, so much fun!!! The second day we went to Kuranda, like 30 mins from cairns which was good, then we headed to mareeba which took a while and wasnt really worth a visit, but another half an hour past that is Granite Gorge, which is well worth the trip, its a small place privatley owned so just $5 each to get in, they have wild rock wallabies hopping around who come and sit on your knee if you feed them, so good to do!! and then a swim in a natural pool, this was ace!!! The day after we headed over the atherton Tablelands, which was ok, but a lot of driving, see the curtain fig tree then go and see milaa milaa falls, this is awesome! swimming underneath the waterfall, its just well worth the trip, made the day!!! Theres the reef too in cairns obv, which is awesome, then we went to hartleys creek croc farm which is good. You can easily fill the time though on the beach, at the local bars, its ace, youll have a great time, and plenty of money!! The one thing i would say, after leaving and looking back i would have liked to have travelled to more places in the time, packed more in and seen more of Aus. If you need any more advice just email....

Hay guys,

Sorry for not getting back to you. Thanks for alll your replies. ALot of you guys are saying 3 weeks in the city centre of Sydney is too long but are there not alot of day trips to do?? We dont really wnat to be doing things every single day anyway - just get to know the city. Where do u suggest we go instead of staying the whole 3 weeks in Sydney?? Also will the hostel be ok if i change my plans when i get there??

I just booked us a flight to alice springs for 6 nights so we can go see Ulru rock (flying from adelaide to alice)

It's pretty cool you have that kind of time and money. I am going to Australia and just have 5 weeks and less money.
If I had that amount of time and money I would have rented a car, started in Sydney and drove all the way around and thrue the middle. But that's me of course.

If you try to fit in Darwin and Brisbane, then the eastern circle is done. Maybe visit the western part another time. I will probably, with Tasmania. I don't like the east coast (well, I am not attracted to it let's say).

Yeah i was thinking of maybe fitting in Brisbane for a week but not sure yet. Dont think we will have time to fit in Darwin but i will be seeing the northern T anyway while in Alice Springs.
