Is it really such a good idea to take hardly anything with you on the premise that you can buy everything (cheaply) in Bangkok?
For example, i dont have any swimming costume and its hard to find one this time of year in Ireland (why would anyone need one??)
Also, After spending three months in asia i am travelling on to australia and new zealand where i plan to do a fair bit of camping. Should i bring my tent with me from ireland, or buy a cheap (and perhaps questionable quality) one in Thailand?
decisions, decisions! any advice?
Unless you are a weird shape buy your gear in Thailand, except your camping gear. What type of camping are you going to do, will you be mostly in camp grounds or mostly doing treks. You will be able to buy a reasonable tent in NZ fairly cheaply. It does rain a lot even in summer.Just got back from NZ and may be going again for a few months. Are you looking at a 1 or 2 or more person tent.
yeah i will be doing a fair amount of camping but mostly in camp grounds. as there are two of us, i want a fairly big tent, probably 4 person. good idea to pick it up in aus. thanks!
Thats the way i would do it.You may be able to get a very cheap one from somebody leaving.I saw a few tents for sale cheap in hostels and other notice boards that people were trying to get rid of.Also lots of other camp gear.Cheap cars are available in NZ. Look in the local papers, not the backpacker car places as the prices are too much.
