I am looking for tricks to get a reservation at a hotel that claims to be all booked up for the dates we can go. There is no way that every room is taken, right? People cancel all the time. Do I just keep calling?

Thanks.

If its Christmas day maybe they could put you up in the stable out the back? ;)

Depends what time of year you are after. If it's a busy time, it's definitely very possible it's all booked up. You'd have to be incredibly lucky in that case to call in time to get a reservation if someone cancels.

The only way I know of that will get you a room is if you have VIP status with the hotel chain. Some of the high-end hotels actually guarantee their best customers a room with as little as a 24-hour notice. I believe they offer another guest free room and board elsewhere to accommodate the VIP.

Other than that, I think you may be out of luck. Someone may cancel, but if it's a busy time of year or there's a popular event on there may be no magical way to get in. Eons ago, I worked at the Intercontinental here and in the dead of summer the place would be classified as 110% full - I never figured out who those poor extra 10% were.
