next yr im going to both & was wondering if any1 has ever purchased camera lenses in these places?
ive read somewhere that hong kong is not the bargain it used to be & that it is now singapore...is that true?
i would like to get canon 24-105mm L IS USM EF lens & would like to save some $...so if anyone would b so kind to share their experience....
Last year I was asking the same question, when in Hong Kong I spend quite a bit of time looking around and negotiating deals on a similar lens to what you are looking at.
In the end I didn't buy a lens got a compact camera though for a friend), as the prices weren't much different from here in the UK. Yes the shopping experience is far better as you get to sit down, have a cuppa and haggle a price (worth it even if you don't want to buy anything).
My advice would be to check out the best price you can find at home, then bearing in mind this price use it as your guide. Sit and haggle, if you get a good deal great, if not enjoy the haggling experience and the polite service.
The prices in Singapore are quite competitive. If you need an international warranty you can get grey sets in Singapore (which are sets or lens without Singapore warranty). They are cheaper too.
Check out the Singapore photography forum at www.clubsnap.com you can get info on prices and there might be some mass orders where you can get a good price.
Have fun shopping.
