yup well, im from WA and yeah, it can be cool here, tho sometimes its freezing where you need to go pick fruit! in winter you need to pack WARM clothes... try n avoid picking table grapes if you can, as its a bit anal n pedantic as you spend more time trying to get a good bucnh of grapes, whereas winery grapes dont care how they look n u can just run ur hands down the vine and the grapes come off that way, its way quicker!

be prepared for SORE backs and sunburn... i went picking in bundaberg and we were lucky as we got to pick flowers (i know, how funny lol) an d we didnt have to bend down TOO much, but others who did aloe vera, zucchinis, peppers etc came home filthy and sore... early mornings are something you need to get used to as well. try and get some cheap accomodation where youll be, as you dont make THAT much money with picking. well you can but at the start when youre a bit slow the money isnt as good as it should be. maybe try n rent an apartment/house where you and heaps of the other pickers can crash cos its way cheaper, if youre gonna be there a while! ask the farms if they have accomodation too... theyre basic but cheap.

have fun!!

i dont think anyone has a good time fruit picking, it is horrible work - that is why only backpackers do it, which i have never been able to understand why peole from such rich countries want to come here and do such a poorly paid job in such terrible conditions. but hey i guess it takes all types to make the world turn....

just cos ur from a rich country doesnt mean you ARE rich. backpackers may start with alot of money but spend it... thats why they go picking. its not for fun its for money... you dont need interviews or experience you just need to be a person with arms n legs n youll get some money, n meet some cool ppl along the way!

Mildura not bad place to fruit pick, theres also loads of big wineries, vegetable farms etc within a 30k radius, there are many temp, seasonal jobs on farms that dont involve picking, such as tractor driving, factory packing, pruning etc.The trick is to approach the farms and factories directly, basically drive down the road and pop in wherever you see any kind of a sign, they are well used to it.Hostels are ok,but wont always be able to get you work.Good areas include Red Cliffs,Merbein,Colignan, all close to Mildura.I jumped off a bus in Mildura one time,1999,and spent 2yrs there!still go back on hols, and mix in some work to pay for the flight.Mildura can be great fun, good Irish pub there.give it a lash, you might be surprised!
