Hi, er... the map is a nifty thing, but I'm getting this "nameless destination" thing when I try to input my latest trip. I'm not sure why I'm getting this error. And I can't find certain places on the map (I thought they were pretty well-known, such as Jeju of South Korea), but I understand that some locations will be added in the future (?)

But just want to thank S&P and Sander for working hard to implement this new feature! :)

"[nameless destination]" is what shows if you haven't given the destination a name. This can happen either when you click on a part of the map where there isn't a cityname (which would fill in the latitude and longitude, but no country or locationname), or if you select a country for the destination, but then type nothing in the locationname field.
In either case, just type the name of the place you visited in the location field for that destination, and that will show up.

The database of locations definitely isn't perfect, and the world is too large for us to check it all, so it's quite possible that several more or less large cities aren't present. I've added Jeju to my personal list of places to check out and potentially add to the database.

Thanks, Sander! Now it works. I didn't realise I had to fill in the location bit as well - I mean, for Hong Kong, it was just... errr... Hong Kong, if you know what I mean.

Yeah, there's always annoying edge cases like that. Stupid world! Why can't it be nicely hierarchical and ordered??! :)

I love it.
It means I can put down the EXACT co-ordinates of where photos were taken and where I was.
Dont get me wrong, I love the Blogging system you have here, its just that I have done a couple of trips where I have been sailing from one place to another, and the country list doesnt let you say '2 miles into the north sea, long 0000 lat 0000'

But now I can. I think its really good. Thankyou.

I have a question,
would it be possible to change some of the place names, as a user that is. Its just that I have come up with quite a few inaquracies like:

Sharm ash Shaykh, Egypt is actually Sharm el Sheikh
Wybunbury, United Kingdom is actually Wrenbury

now i have no idea if this has been discussed before, and if it has, I am sorry, can you point me to the relevent posts.

(Oh, I still LOVE the new feature, with Lat and Long.... its so cool)

Quoting PirateDani

would it be possible to change some of the place names, as a user that is.

Assuming it's a place one of your trips stops at, or the place has a photo assigned to it: Yes, just manually correct it in the location name field, and in the future it should show up on your map like that. (With a few caveats, in that if you have several photos and trip stops at the same location already, you'd need to manually rename them all for this to be reliable, and I think if there's several nearby locations that are grouped together, it might sometimes also revert to the original version. I've actually been meaning to look at the code for that for a while, to see if I can make it work more consistently.)

Oh, I need to amend the above post. Right now it only shows the edited location name if you're looking at the trip that visits that location, not in "all trips & photos" view, and it doesn't work at all for locations which only have photos assigned. I'll definitely try to improve that at some point soon (assuming I can do so without adversely affecting performance, which I'm not entirely certain about). You can already edit the location names, and if/when those changes of mine would go live, they'll automatically pick up your changes.
