I make sure I am friendly (not over, at a nice medium) and make sure that I ask questions about them (the ones that Clarabell said pretty much are them) and not particularily dwell on me too much!

Thats about it. If they don't speak your language very well or at all it doesn't matter much.
Going travelling for the first time and on my own to South America next year.
So I'm alone, I arrive to the hostel I booked and I get shown to my room where there are some people there chatting, may or may not speak my language...what is the first thing you say to break the ice and come across to the others as someone they would want to talk to!?!?
Just generally wondering when travelling alone what are people's conversation starters with strangers?
- on entering the dorm, scratching frantically all over- "Is it just me or is everyone else itchy?"

Well, in my young, stupid, single days it'd be something like "Hi, nice tits"
However, as time has progressed and I've grown and matured somewhat it's more likely to be "Hi, nice bosoms"
