This thread is marked as being about Australia

I'm visitng for the first time, arriving next week and staying for 2 weeks in Melbourne for an event. It looks like the only time I'll be able to travel will be between Dec 19 and 23. Since it's a few days, I'm thinking of going to Sydney, Byron Bay and Dorrigo National Park. I wanted to experience a bit of the rainforest, ocean and Sydney. Does this make sense? Or someone has a better suggestion? Any recommendations on places to stay (prefer my own room w/ bathroom)? I'd appreciate any assistance. Thanks!

You could spend the 5 days in the Sydney area. I suggest base yourself there and experience the city, the fantastic Harbour, there are plenty of beaches and for rain forest, try the Blue Mountains which are close and would be a nice day trip.
Give Byron a miss.
For accomodation, try

I agree with Maba, skip Byron. Dorrigo NP is nice but I think you will get just as much out of the Blue Mountains. Beaches around the Sydney area are good but you can go up to the Central Coast (just north of Syndy) for more good beaches and a bit of varity while still being close enough so you don't spend all of your time travelling.
