Hey!! This is gonna go off... Just a few thing some of you might be able to help with... Anyone pulled one of these off? How long did u go for?

We are planning on buying a van (possibly minibus, the number of people keeps growing) and cruising the Euro roads for about 3 or 4 months, or until we run out of money.

I have been told you are allowed to camp anywhere you want in some countries... Anyone know about this? Will make things easy if we can crash in the van! I'm sure we will do it weather its legal or not, but will be nice to know which places we can do it blatently.

Any help or tips or any info that you reckon is relevant is greatly appreciated!! Cheers!

Hey there you fucking bastard;)

I am planning an Eastern Europe trip this year by car. Can't wait for that!!! I was also planning on camping wherever possible. In most European countries wildcamping is not allowed. What you can do best in these countries is asking a farmer to put up your tent on his land. Wildcamping is allowed by law In the Scandinavian countries (except for Denmark). But only if you leave everything cleaned up. Especially in France are very good camping facilities on the so called farmer campings, these are basic but cheap. Hopes this helps a bit. Cheers!!!!

cool, cheers man.. more what i had in mind tho was just pulling off the road on some backroad somewhere and sleeping in the van... we are not really planning on taking tents, altough we may change that plan, the van would be a little cramped!!

so how would you find these farms/farmers?? just drive up to their house and ask or what??

thanks again, ya prick!!

I don't know how large your van would be. But I think that sleeping in a minibus with a few people is kind of shitty. I would prefer a tent. If you are going to put your camp out somewhere without permission of someone I think that the locals will notice (the land is always from someone). I think that is asking for trouble. If you are asking polite (and try to learn to say this in the local language, that alwasy helps) a farmer will probably allow you to camp on his land (if not, find another farmer).

The easier option is to pay and stay on a special farmers campsite. This is comfortable and you will have the benefit of toilet and showers. The farmer campsites in western Europe are usually signposted quite well. There is also a guidebook with the location of most of these campsites.

I will be driving Eastern Europe by July. But only 5 weeks.

my two cents: i am very excited about biking/camping down the moselle and/or rhein river this summer. this past summer, i spent a day doing it, and it was FABULOUS. i'm not a cyclist, but it was beautiful. there are towns, vineyards (with wineries, of course), and castles all along the rivers.

in fact the rhine (however you want to spell it), has a stretch b/w brutisheim and koblenz that has a castle every few kms. there are campsites and train stations all along these rivers. i spent several days off driving the 'long way' just to get a piece of that road in.
