i am travelling a lot of south america and planning on taking a visa debit card and a back up visa creditcard. I will also take £300 of traveller cheques for an emergency. Does that sound about right and if so which make of traveller cheques should i get for south and central america. help would be greatly appreciated x
Search the forum; other threads will tell you just how useless TCs are when travelling SA. You'll have a hard time cashing them; just leave them at home.
right,it is a waste of time to find a bank who will change them for you.
Most business dont accept them, because it takes endless till they
get the money and the bank will charge to much.
Even in Panama City with more or less 90 international banks was only one where I could cash in my american express TS or Visa TS.
This was about 5 years ago, since then I dont take TS with me to South America anymore.
I would say you are fine with credit and debit cards.
have a good time,
