one more thing, since there is no evidence to support this / conviction you could be easily damaging a good hostel / family runned business down the the poo.

now that is an offence in its own right because not even the owners of the hostel would be aware of this...they could also carry out there own investigation...but you or no one has given them the chance to defend themselves...its not about who did what...its about who is telling the truth!

at the present time, this would be regarded as faulse accusations
were you could be prosecuted! but this is the net, no one gets prosecuted!!!

just reading through the threads on this topic...almost believed but what doesnt make sense to me is...if you have witnesses of the actual event taking place! are you telling me you just picked up your bags and walked out happy as larry?

any normal common sense used here would be to phone the police! STRAIGHT AWAY! ANY NORMAL person / witness would have done this...but you and witnesses didnt! that is why i have doubts about the whole thing!

if this happened and the girl was on her own and no witnesses then i can understand to an extend why this was never reported...but to have witnesses and never to report is wrong!

not only that but the witnesses would be guilty for not reporting a serious crime! another offence that committed by yourself!

this makes me believe that the people the people who did not report the crime who are the witnesses are as guilty as the guy who molested! because if what you say is true, then this person is allowed to this to other women!!!!

hmmm

i was not there - if i was then i would have at the very least called the police. I stand by everything i have said.

i didn't find out about this until much later. they were two young girls travelling alone and panicked and left rome immediately. and yes, it does make me mad that they did not go to the police, but they were understnadably scared (and these things are often made much harder by goig nto the authorities). A great deal of counselling was involved following this trauma, and i only learnt of this when she got back home.

I agree that something should be done, so that is why i am posting on the internet in the hope that others won't face the same fate. if you feel ther eis something else i can do, please let me know.

the only thing that you can do is talk to your friend, see what she wants to do...then for the both of you to go to the police (your local police) i think it is possible to give a statement from your local police station and they then carry out a investigation on your behalf through the italian police...

if your friend is too scared to do anything or isnt up to the task or worried of the back lash then by all means let this scum bag walk free and to do to other women...and if friend still doesnt report it then maybe one day she will have a daughter who stays in the same hostel and get molested! then maybe she will wake up and smell the coffee!

theres nothing anyone can do..

1)except go to the police,

2)or fly over with a few friends and beat him to a pulp were he will be sucking his food through a staw for the rest of his days.

id prefer to take option 2 myself.

believe me, it has preyed on my mind for weeks to take option 2, but i made a promise not to.

she just wants to leave it behind and we both know that goignto the police will mean she faces a reaction similar to what i have done, and will be very upset by that. furthmore, we have no hard evidence and i am in europe, she is now in the US.

i've been to the local police here, they say it'll have to be a complaint to the rome police, so that's that, especially now that some time has passed.

Ther reason i am stickign it out online is for precisely the reason you state- someoen's daughter stays there eveyr night, proably under 25 and proably too scared or ashemed to go t othe police after it happens.

Hello Dutchie

Take it easy, on yourself.
If u already went to the police where u are, u have done quite a lot. Maybe there is nothing more, that can be done, legally.
Just comfort your friend. Give her a listening ear, when she wants to talk about it. I think this kind of support means, as much to most women, as justice being done.
U understand, that what happened was bad and wrong, and that will mean a lot to her. It will give her the feeling that all men are not evil and some can be a good friend. I understand that u feel helpless, that more cannot be done, but speaking as a woman, i assure u that an understanding friend, who listens to a womans feelings, when she is upset means a great deal.

Bad things are constantly happening in the world.
Sometimes all we can do is comfort the victims and not hurt other ourselves.

If this really did in fact happen, and you aren't just saying it because you run another hostel in Rome, has your friend got rocks in her head or does she just enjoy getting raped which would mean she has a serious mental disability? Any idiot in their right mind should realise for something like that even in a place like Russia where the police are complete morons who like stealing your money, the first thing after getting the hell out of the hostel you'd do is run to the nearest police station and hopefully get the barstard arrested and sent to prison. Anyone aged over 12 should know that, let alone any person older than that, and that age is probably being generous. Even being terrified like she rightfully would have been, police are meant to be your friends in situations like that. I know the first thing I did when I got seriously mugged was get myself to the nearest police station and get a report done while everything was still clear.

If it did happen I hope that your friend has now recovered properly physically, and isn't of the opinion that every male in the world is like that which would deter her from every travelling again.
