Probably not the best place to be asking but anyone got any tricks to stop their concentration slipping??

I'm trying to keep mine on an essay due in soon but after about two mins I just drift off!

Help me!

Set yourself time deadlines Mim - work for 1 hour then give yourself 15 minutes off and get up and go away from the essay - have a cup of tea, some chocolate or a ciggie if that is your poision! Then go back to the essay!

Keep in mind how good it will feel to have it it completed and handed in!

I try to work where there are the least distractions. Going to a library helps a lot.

Oh hon, I know exactly what you mean, I am in the same situation! Which is why I am faffing about on TP instead right now! I usually find working in the library helps loads, do whatever you can to avoid distractions. And stay away from here!!!!

Also- just start writing it, even if its rubbish that yoy write and just notes, getting something down is half the battle.

But what do I know? I'm still messing around and its nearly time for dinner and neighbours.....

Put it off until the last minute.

That desperate sense of urgency coupled with mild panic generally helps.

Well this post seems to have a magnet on it. I too am writting a 10 page research paper for uni and took a break to jump on TP. this was actually the first post i clicked on. I feel your pain mim and clarabell. the insanity is over for me come tuesday next week when i turn the little bugger in and take my final, which is actually writting another 5 page paper from scratch in class. ahhhhhh!!!!!!

Then i will just be able to work every day all day and save up for my years off i am going to take to go back off travelling.

LIke Purdy says, I used to give myself deadlines - like, finish writing 2 pages - before I could get up and do something else. It's a bit anal, but it seemed to work. Sometimes it's motivation that drives you - I can concentrate well doing freelance, but at work I find myself staring out the window a lot. Hmm...pretty pigeons...

Agree with James. Procrastination and last minute panic helps in getting a work completed. So, relax and enjoy yourself... the essay will take care of itself, in its due time! ;)

(Keep in mind though this relaxed attitude comes hand-in-hand with being okay about handing in half-baked stuff that are not going to bring you excellent grades)
