Hi,

I'm going to Beijing on the 26th of January so I will be there for Chinese New Year. I was just wondering what it was like and how it is celebrated? What is there for a foreigner to do to get an inside look at the festival?

This year's spring festival is 18th, Feb. There are a lot of activities and event, such as temple fairs. A good opportunity to experience chinese culture.

Cheers

Hey there,
Im hoping to go to china in about 9months and was wondering how long a person can get a visa for - i know chinas stricter than the majority of countries. I am english and would ideally like to be in china for a year. Also have you learnt mandarin? Im trying now but its a very very slow process - would you consider knowing the language well an essential as im going to smaller cities than beijing.
Thankyou for your time,
Nick

If you want to be in China for that long, I don't think getting a 1-year visa is possible unless you take up a course of study (Mandarin, perhaps) for that duration. Or, arrange for a job teaching English for 1 year. The max that you can get in Hong Kong at the moment seems to be 6-month visas.
