Darling Back-Packer Guesthouse, Hanoi, Vietnam

Word of warning for potential guests here. Don't surrender your passport upon arrival and check your room carefully- you will pay for broken fixtures etc if you don't spot them upon check in. No pay=no passport! As convenient as it is, give this place a miss. You won't miss too much!

Dan,
All GHs in VN keep your passport when checking in. Not much choice in the matter. I think your observation to check the room first for damage is a good one. I always check the shower, TV, bed, lights before making a decision. If something is not working and you still choose to rent, bringing it to their attention can avoid these type of practices. I am going to PM you for additional details.

I think it must have been your note I saw tucked under the glass in reception there??!! It's still there! Oh dear, poor you.
