Hi,

My partner and I are wanting to go from Salzburg in Austria to Fussen in Germany and would like some tips on getting there by public transport. If anyone has done this leg I would be interested to find out how you did it, how long it took to get there and if you know of a good website to book this through then please respond.

Thanks in advance
FD:)

I tried gettin to Fussen from Innsbruck and found out that the best way is to get to Munich then take a local train or bus to Fussen.

I also found going through Munich to be the easiest route so far...I am travelling from Fussen to Innsbruck in May and have been looking at the quickest routes between places as I am pressed for time while there. Hope it is of help...the EuRail website has timetables and maps, etc that show the local rail lines and times

gettin to and from Innsbruck to Fussen is not as easy as would appear. Fussen is on route to Inns from Munich but you have to go to and from Munich to Inns. wierd.

From Fuessen to Innsbruck, you can avoid Munich by going via Reute Im Tirol/Pfronten Ried and Garmisch Partenkirken. It can take a bit longer, though is shorter, and also goes through some fantastic scenery.

From Salzburg to Fuessen it's easy, with a change in Munich. FrRom there it's direct every 2hours, and with a change in, at a guess, Buchloe, on the off hour

Hello Fdavies;

I had done exactly that a few years ago - travelled from Salzburg Austria to Fussen Germany via train. It took a lot longer than we had expected because of the long wait between connections, and we had to grab a taxi from the train station to get to our accomodations in Fussen (perhaps 6 hours entire trip from Salzburg?). It's a small scenic town nestled in the alps and it was raining when we arrived. Of course everybody comes for one reason: Neuschwannstein castle. I hope its clear and sunny when you get there.

Cheers,

I've been to Germany twice and visited both Fussen & Salzburg. First trip we had a car and drove from Fussen to Munich. Fussen is like a fairytale! You'll love it. On our second trip we stayed at the Excelsior Hotel in Munich. It's just a half block from the train station and we could walk to the Marionplatz & Haufbrauhaus. It's on a little street with eateries and the huge Hurtie department store. Our rooms were on the back side and noise was not a problem. They had the best breakfast I've ever had in Europe....including champagne & caviar! We just walked out the front door to the train station and boarded a train for Salzburg. Wonderful!

From Innsbruck to Füssen you need to travel by bus (or make the detour by train over Garmisch). You need to travel from Innsbruck to Reutte in Tirol, and catch the bus there to Füssen. You can check the site, of the austrian public transport to chech this route. (sorry the link, is from Reutte to Innsbruck, but you can change easily)
