Hi everyone!
Glad I found this site, it's been a wealth of information already!

Hope I'm not asking silly questions, but my upcoming trip to Wales/Britain will be my first overseas excursion!

Has anyone ever travelled the countryside by train/bus without a clear idea of where they were going? :)
I want to roam the country and take as much of it in as possible... do you think this is wise? Or should I map out some kind of route first.
I'll have to investigate the issue of hostels as well, does anyone have any websites or recommendations for good places to stay?

Thanks so much for all your help!

It would be a good idea to either buy some kind of pass for travel by train/bus or to work out when you're going to travel to your next destination and book the ticket a fair way in advance. Travel in the UK can be expensive without doing this!

A cheap way of getting around the UK is by megabus (can be booked online) or by buying national express funfares-also book these online, although fares are not flexible, you have to stick to the times you've choosen.

Trains are expensive in the UK, so if you use these book as early in advance possible.

p.s. transport in rural Wales is very limited, hiring a car maybe a better idea.

For places to stay check the youth hostel association: hotels are expensive in the UK.
