I will be traveling to NYC (with my girlfriend) between X-mas and New Years and am curious if there are places to stay outside the city to avoid such high prices. I don't mind if we have to use a train and spend some time to get to the city as long as we get there in an hour (or less). Any ideas? Thanks.
hi ivan, have you tried any hostels?, there are a few cheap ones in nyc, not sure on the address but try the lonly planet web site.
I live in NJ about 30 minutes west of NYC and the buses are easily accessable from here. Check the njtransit website for the best bus stops. Also you can check areas in brooklyn or queens if you want to be close to the city without the expense, but with the ease of NYC public trasport system. If you still want cheap you can check places in Staten Island, but you are limited to only a free ferry service into manhattan. It really depends on what type of budget you are talking about. I can a lot better advice based on that. Hope this helps
