Hi Gszenacm,

Yes, I just found this out myself today. I have no idea what is wrong here because it was working yesterday and nothing has been changed. I am working to resolve this with the host ASAP! Please note the messages also can't be deleted and they are still there so once the link is working again nothing should be missing...

Sorry for the incovenience!

Cheers,

Sam

Hi all,

Well, it took a few hours but it seems now that the message problem is fixed. Hope it wasn't too great of an inconvenience to anyone and please do let me know if there are any of your messages missing or if you encounter any more problems.

Cheers,

Sam

Hi Sam I am!

I'm getting a lot of messages lately about travel help for my country. I answer them all but I NEVER get any reply from the travelhelp seekers. Never ever. Now I know some people get what they want and never say thanks or something but NOT ALL of them and there's many of them. If I recieved just one reply from one of them I wouldn't be posting this question here, but there is nothing. Is it possible that I'm replying to the fog? Is it possible that something doesn't work here? What I do is just click reply, write an answer and click send. And there's always a notice that my message had been sent.

Cheers,
B

Hi Ariel!

I know what you mean! It is not a system thing though (unfortunately)....it is a peoples thing. I guess thanks is not something that most people are used to saying anymore. I find it rather strange myself because sometimes I type quite a decent long message and it would be nice to know if they are appreciated.

Just to let you know that we are working on something which will hopefully help out a little in this area. As the Travel Help area is becoming more and more popular, we want to try and make sure that both those asking for help, and those giving it, are really realizing what they are asking and signing up to. So, we are trying to set up a system where Travel Helpers are rewarded by those asking the question, for the quality of the answer. This will result in some kind of ranking, nothing too serious, which in turn will probably result in a "member of the month" or year thing. With the help of some sponsors we would like to offer a really wicked prize trip to this person or persons, just so they know they are being appreciated :) It is high up on the list of things to do....

On the other hand, for the short term, we will go ahead and set up the form people fill out with a "please reply and say thank you" sentence or something like that to make sure you don't end up worrying your messages are disappearing!

Thanks for your post Ariel....good to remind me of the things I need to do every now and then!

Cheers,

Sam

Well, to make an "on the air" beginning of the Short Course of Manners and Polite Behaviour: thanks for your answer Sam!

I'm glad that the system is working on the other hand I'm dissapointed that there are so many of them who forgot about the simple "please&thanks" words. it's not the word really that I'm looking for, it's just when you take your time and write a long mail you expect at least a small simple comment about your info. Guess nowadays this is too much to expect? So, good idea about bringing it to people through this site, one thing travellers must have is manners. I'm sure it'll work and I'm sure I'll be the first running for that wicked trip prize !

Take care,
B.

Ariel and Sam,

I totally agree with both of you. I haven't had a lot of requests for help from this site but from another travel helper site I have quite a lot and only rarely do I get any response at all.

But, when you do get response, it's so great knowing that you've actually been able to help someone. 1 or 2 years ago, I had long mail conversations with an American couple who got quite a bit of help from me, I went to their hotel before they arrived and left a whole package of stuff for them... Afterwards they answered and told me what a great trip they'd had to Copenhagen, but apart from this couple, hardly any response at all.

It is very weird that people don't bother to reply. So, Sam, your idea with the form sounds good, it doesn't take a lot to send a small note saying thank you. What I like best is having the response after those people have used the info I've been able to give, then I know I've made a difference LOL

Hi again!

OK, check this one:
Couple of months ago I recieved a different kind of request (not on this forum) - it was from a girl who was travelling through Thailand and on that way she met a guy whom she really liked but didn't take his address. Months later she realised that she can't get him out of his mind so she obviously started to browse different travel forums where she found me. She saw that I was from the same country as her guy was, so she send me a help message. She asked me to help her find him. Notice that she didn't have any idea about his address, she couldn't even remember his name. All she knew was that he worked in a rent-a-car office and that he travelled through Thailand by bicycle. OK, so call me a romantic fool, I actually posted a few messages on a couple of my homecountry's travel forums and believe it or not, I got the answer from some girl who knew that guy. She gave me his email which I sent to the desperatly seeking girl. I was thrilled to the bones for bringing somebody's dream into reality. I asked her to let me know how this romantic story continues.

It's been 3 months since then. Do you think I recieved any response? Nop. None. Nothing.

What the f...?????

Ariel,

nothing like romantic "fools", we make the world go around LOL I would have done the same thing as you, but would also have been very annoyed at not hearing from her again.
