Check that your Phone can be used in all the countries you will be going to.There are 4 different frequentcies on the GSM system. You should get a quad band phone if going to the USA.Also even if you can use your phone in all the countries you may not be able to get all the features that your phone is capable of.When going from Australia to N.Z. this year i could not get anything other than voice and texting.Vodafone in NZ the only GSM provider would not connect my phone with other services.I was told my phone was a cheap model so they would not allow me to access other services.

You can buy international sim cards which will work in most countrys but there are three pit falls to this.
first: The sim card costs you about 30 quid in the first place
second: It costs you a fortune to make calls and send texts messages
and third: it wont work in all countrys.

From experience... Ensure your phome is un-blocked, so that it will take any sim card. this will cost you about five pounds.

Then just buy a sim card when your in the country you are travelling.

IE a sim card for Thailand will cost you about 1.20
A sim card for China will cost you about 1.00
etc etc..... hope this helps
