Hey all,

I am flying to chendgu in march and plan to ehad to lhasa and the rest of tibet asap. I heard that it can be hassle sorting out train tickets as they are in high demand and also a pain in the wrong'un sorting the permit out. Does anyone have any suggestionas of the best way to get around this? Any companies that could sort the permit and train tickets for me in advance without having to book a tour through them? any advice on places to visit would be greatly appreciated as well!
Thanks all,
Stumpy :)

hey
i took the railway in sept and it wasnt as much hassle as i thought
i got my permit from dreams hostel and then went to the station and booked the train ticket myself... you cannot book the train ticket without the permit as they want to see it and the station has two ticket windows set up specifically for the lhasa train...
the biggest problem is giving the date that you want to travel, the permit is only valid for 7 days and that includes the time spent on the train (2 days) so its a bit hard saying when you want to go when you dont know if there are going to be seats available on the train and you cant book your train ticket before you have the permit... so it all feels a bit wierd when your doing it but we didnt have a problem going on the day we picked and managed to get a bottom bed which we wanted...
prices for the bed work as the top one is cheapest, then middle a bit dearer and bottom the most expensive... its a very long trip and im not sure its worth the money as it actually works out cheaper to fly i think...

enjoy it anyways, we did!
