hi there - been to samui many a time but never around Christmas - this year I'll be celebrating new years there - in all the usual places - green mango - sweet soul bar - can anyone tell me - is it a big celebration?? also whats the weather likely to be??
I was there for NYE two years ago. They had a huge party on the beach at Chauweng, which involved some great DJ's (Brandon Block, etc from the UK). I'm not a big fan of big parties but this one was quite special with a great crowd and atmosphere. I think it was about 200 bahts but well worth it. I'll be in Phnom Penh for NYE but we're down towards Phangan and Samui around 6th Jan so maybe bump into you but enjoy in the meantime.
Oh, by the way December onwards is start of the dry season in southern thailand so you will have lots of sunny hot weather (even the nights are hot) although last year they had an extended wet season there. I went off to Krabi (3 hours to the other side of Thailand...the andaman) and the weather there was superb.
Hope that helps.
Hi there i went to samui last year and i would avoid it like the plague if i was you, it got too built up and touristy the beaches are dirty and full of idiots. Thailand has much nicer places to offer. I spent new years on Koh Tao and ha d agreat beach party walking along into all bars all night great atmostphere. Pls dont bother with samui especially if you have been there b4, it probably the worst part of thialand by far.
