Hi. Is Athens safe for a female solo traveller?
Do they speak English in Greece?
Also, any tips and advice about where to stay or what to do in Athens would be appreciated. :)

Hello Damsca

It is not so dangerous, that u should avoid it.
However, u may get more attention, from the men there, that u want.
Also, people can on occasion be highly strung. But their rants are uauslly verbal only.

I have not been there, for several years, so cant recommend a place to stay.

But what type of place, are u looking for. Hostel, hotel room?

Thank you for your msg. :)
Well... I'm looking for a safe accommodation, but also not expensive one.
Is Fivos hotel any good? Or should I find something in Plaka?

Go to Athens is a hostel that is situated right next to the Acropolis. The staff there is great and will help you out and you can meet some other young people to venture out with.

Yeah, what Maridod said sounds like a good idea.
Backpacker places are usually easy going, and not expensive and also a good place, to meet people.

I dont know Fivos Hotel.

Athens is definitely safe. It is much safer than most European capitals. I would recommend you stay in the Plaka, Psirri region as it is very lively all day long from tourists and it is well looked after from police. I would also recommend strolling around the new pedestrianised streets around the Acropolis and visiting the National Archaelogical Museum.... and also the athens municipality website
