Mapping errors, Modes, Ordering and memory of countries

Travel Forums System Talk Mapping errors, Modes, Ordering and memory of countries

I've finally started making a go at mapping my trip from 05-06. It's very early days so far, and I'm plucking dates out of thin air, but it's working reasonably thus far.

A couple of queries though:

1. Is there a reporting for wrong place locations/data errors? For example, Lindau on Lake Constanz in Bavaria, Germany comes out on near the Czech border (still in Bavaria), so i've had to find a random village nearby to show instead.

2. Is there no scope for having other modes of transport (Cycling/Motorcycling seem the most obvious ommissions, but i'd also like to see an "animal" option to cover elephants, donkeys, horses, camels etc). Or maybe an "other" which you can fill in yourself.

3. Is there a way that i can default the order of my trip to be most recent first? After adding each stop, (I figure that if i'm going to do this, i may as well do it properly) i have to scroll down to the bottom to add the next one, which after a few months of detail is going to start being a fairly significant scroll...

4. Can you fix it (as per photo uploading) that it remembers countries that you have already used? For example, if i put in 5 stops in a trip consecutively in one country - and some will be many, many more) I have to find that country manually each time.

So if, for example, I have a point in Russia, and want to add the next one also in Russia, i have to scroll to R again, and find it automatically. Can it not at least give me the quick fire option of selecting Russia again, when i scroll to the same letter that my last point was in??

Nothing structured. Let us know as much detail as possible (coordinates where it's located, and best guess coordinates of where it _should_ be located, at least for those cities that aren't notable enough to be in wikipedia with coordinates) and we can fix them on a case by case basis. (I've added Lindau to my personal list.) If we get enough reports of wrong locations, we might build something to automate that, but for now we're hoping that won't be necessary.

For example, Lindau on Lake Constanz in Bavaria, Germany comes out on near the Czech border (still in Bavaria), so i've had to find a random village nearby to show instead.

There's no need to find a random village. Just click on the "select on map" 'button' and then on the correct position on the map, and it will put the location at that new position. (Or you can pick that nearby village, and then enter the 'correct' name in the locationname field.)

2. Is there no scope for having other modes of transport (Cycling/Motorcycling seem the most obvious ommissions, but i'd also like to see an "animal" option to cover elephants, donkeys, horses, camels etc).

Seems reasonable - and adding a few more is pretty trivial.

There isn't such a way, but there's also no need to scroll down. There's a big "save and add a destination" button right under the notes textarea, which works exactly the same as the [+] button for each destination. For re-ordering, removing and the final "done" you'd still need to scroll down, but those are actions that happen rarely enough that this shouldn't be too much of a bother.

4. Can you fix it (as per photo uploading) that it remembers countries that you have already used? For example, if i put in 5 stops in a trip consecutively in one country - and some will be many, many more) I have to find that country manually each time.

I'll do this, although "countries that you have already used" is much harder here, as we don't regenerate that list during the trip creation process.
The reason it isn't in right now is that for a very long time we had "click on map" as the main/only input mechanism, so it wouldn't have been necessary.
For the moment, to make selecting the right country easier, you can type the first few letters of it (or if you'd use IE, only the very first letter) when the selectbox has focus, and it'll automatically jump to the first country matching those letters.

Your right, there must be some mistake...

How about for Gelli only [or others on request] you remove the plane option? If i can't log a trip by plane on TP, there would then be no way i could ever use a plane, even if i wanted to, would there?!
