My friend and I are spending 3 and 1/2 weeks in Philippines Jan/Feb 2007 doing some volunteering in Tacliban then we have about 8days at the end to travel. First we booked a flight from Manilla to Puerto Princesa and were going to make our way up to El Nido but we don't think we will have enough time. We are going to cancel this flight and are looking for the cheapest flight from Manilla to El Nido return - any suggestions? Also is it best to book now or once we arrive in Manilla? We also want pretty much budget accomodation in El Nido and most of the places we have found on the Internet are walk-in bookings only. We will be there mid-Feb - are these places likely to book out? We are hoping El Nido is relatively untouristy and cheap with nice beaches and islands - is this accurate?! Thanks for your help, Lisa
hi, you dont have to book in advance, when you get to manila, go to palawan center. its located in makati. look for james simpson, and he will get you quitevreasonable places in el nido. you have to take a flight to coron. he know3s everything there is to know about palawan. the address of palawan center is : palawan center, 2nd floor, pasay road, corner edades street, makati. his mobile number is 63-9176273383. i will give you his landline tomorrow.
have a good trip!
Just book a flight from Manila to El Nido although it might be a bit more expensive than the flight to Puerto Princesa. Beaches in El Nido are not nice but the beaches of the islands offshore in the Bacuit archipelgo are awesome. I highly recommend island hopping when you are in El Nido. All you have to do is to hire a fisherman and his boat which should not cost more than 1000 Pesos for a whole day. If you share these costs with other tourists you will get a fairly cheap trip.
No need to book in advance, at least this is what I experienced in February 2004. Just very few tourists and you should get a nice double room with fan and bathroom for 200 Pesos a night. I think the place I stayed at was Cliffside cottages which is more less 300 m inland from the beach. In general YOU SHOULD NOT BOOK YOUR TRIPS IN ADVANCE in the philippines since then they'll be much more expensive.
Hey kafri, you even got a better deal than we did!
When we went there two years ago (May 2004), we stayed in Tandikan. The beachfront cottage with a private bathroom cost us 600 pesos a night. It doesn't have air conditioning, which is useless anyway because of the power shortage. El Nido only has electricity for 12 hours a day. I agree the beach is not exemplary, but it's still good for swimming. We hired a boat for island hopping for P1200. Sometimes foreigners are charged more, but if you're a good haggler then you could probably get a local rate.
I can't help you with the flight, since we chose the adverturer's way. That is, took the regular bus (P300) from Puerto Princesa to El Nido. I kissed the land when we finally reached El Nido. The ride was extremely exhausting.
Oh by the way, I think Asian Spirit has a direct flight from Manila to El Nido. Not sure though, you could check their website.

Hello, i hope someone could help, my bf and is planning to spend a week in el nido palawan, from 5th to 12 of may, 2007. do we need to book in advance or not, if not, is there any travel agency in the makati/manila that can give us a cheap package. I'm looking for cheap flight as well to el nido from manila. thank you
We will be in El Nido on May 10 -14. Our R/T flight is via ITI, fare is 9,000pesos, but we have to book for one night in Miniloc Resort. While R/T fare of Seair is 12,560 plus terminal fee of 200pesos. We also booked our first night at Sunset Lovers Beach Cottages for 2,000pesos with airport pick-up. From there, we will decide if we are going to stay or transfer to another resort.
