I dream of taking a year or two and go around the world, unfortunately I don't have the time and budget to do it.
What I would like to do is take 2 0r 3 weeks off and buy airfare to travel around the world, it may not be the same but at least I will get to see some places
I have the following questions
I live in the US near New York City I will take my trip in May 2005, what would be the best places to visit?
I was thinking Chile, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong or Shanghai, England and then home to the US
If you have better route please let me know
Do you think I can do this in 3 weeks? I was thinking of spending 2 or 3 days per city
I know this seems a little silly to travel to these places for such short time, but I love to travel and this is the only way I can do it
All travel is great, but personally I wouldn't recommend this one.
You need to think about cities, not countries - you don't have time to explore further than that.
If you visit 5 cities, you will spend approx 5-6 days travelling, giving you about 3 days in each place, minus the jetlag which will inevitably hit you at some point, knocking another day or two off and maybe ruining your entire stay in one place.
Don't just do this to say you've been "around the world".
Better to choose an adventure holiday in a country you're interested in and do that - you could have a fantastic trip and learn a lot about a place, and yourself, rather than sitting on airliners for a week!
Remember, a lot of cities are very similar, so you could be disappointed if you don't have time to explore.

I'm planning to travel around May 2005 too. I was thinking of backpacking Europe, but when I realized I wouldn't be able to have so many days (maybe just 2 weeks or so), I changed my plan and focus on just two countries. Just a thought...your plan to travel rtw for 2 weeks is too short... you will rush everything... If I may suggest, focus on a couple of places you want to see most.
Have fun planning
