It's called white beer and is sold in just several countries in europe: netherlands, belgium, germany, switzerland and austria. And probably in some other countries, but less so.

You can buy Hoegaarden here in Montreal at the liquor commission, or at certain bars. It's not bad - but I'm no beer connaisseur! We have some local breweries that make specialty beers at certain times of year - apple beer in the fall, pumpkin beer, apricot beer - those are pretty good.

german beer is nice but i think personally belgium makes the best beer in the world!

i love hoegaarden beer! the best beer that i have ever tasted! you can get that beer in some bars all around europe and in some off licenses too!

ask anyone and they will never have a bad thing to say about it!

hoegaarden - how would you pronounce it in English - Hoe-Garden? I like it already. Will keep my eyes peeled for it!

Micro breweries... they're funny. Oregon has lots of them - strawberry beer, honey beer, etc... Gives you the impression you're in the fruit department.

I'm not going to be very original here, but I have to go with Guiness. It's probably one of the world's most recognized beers at any rate, and absolutely fantastic in my mind.

Oh wait, just re-read you're original post. So yes, I agree. . .King of Beers for sure.

all this beer talk is making me thirsty...

i think i will go to belgium in a few months time to test the different beers...

i just wish belgium exported all that nice beer!

i think companys like heineken, carlsberg, fosters etc should take note of this forum! :)

why is it called white beer when its not actually white but quite dark? i have heard of it been known as white beer...but i once had a form of kronnenburg in the form of white beer, not the regular stuff, it was kinda fruity and at the same time disgusting...and then said i would never taste white beer again...

but my fav beer hoegaarden is white beer.....hmmmmmmmmmm

Um YEAH Hoegarden pronounced hoo garden, is totally the best. Especially off the tap in Belgium... I'm in the states, and my part of the country just started to allow high gravity beers to be sold, so I am lucky enough to get the strong version of all the Belgian beers here in the states. I just got back from Belgium, Brugges, and love that I can still taste the moment of having a Hoegarden at a cafe on a square in Brugges. I also really enjoy a Tilsburg Dutch Brown. Unique brown flavor with a different kinda buzz!!!

Yes Dezafinado...Hoe-Garden

in some off-licenses here in ireland you can get it, i know one dutch bar in soho in london were you can get it, a lot of people will know off it, and you have your moments were its easy to get and then at times very hard to get...

normal pubs in england do not sell it, off licenses might...

but it is a nice beer...some of the other guys make suggestions too and i am now dieing to try these other beers...

trust me...most people from germany, holland, belgium know there beers! in ireland we just know guinness...but go to the guinness brewery in dublin and you will drink the best guinness...but i am not a guinness drinker...i find it too thick, too smooth, can compare it slightly to cold coffee and its heavy....did i tell you about the horrible farts that you get when you drink that stuff?

in a hot summers day i wouldnt drink that stuff...id go for any lager in that case to cool me down

Just a guess but I think it's a derivative of the German word Weissbier (White Beer), which in German means wheat beer. It's cloudy in texture with some residual wheat powder when resting.
