i now understand why canada doesnt sell redbull! because after my new years eve i am seriously ill after drinking 10 pints of double vodka and redbull as well as many beers were it feels like my heart is about to jump out of my chest:(

First off to set things right, Redbull can be found in Canada... all over the place. Where were you in Canada that they didn't know what you were talking about?

Second, it's a dangerous drink, even on it's own. A basketball student in Ireland died of heart failier after drinking eight in a row before a game. (one example)

The makers of Red Bull recently released a statement in which they stated that Red Bull should never be mixed with alcohol.

I had a Redbull and vodka here in Montreal about 4 years ago. Nasty stuff! I expect the "trendier" bars and clubs would serve it (I was at a make-shift bar on the riverfront that only served beer or vodka and Redbull, for some reason).

Isa was asking about Redbull in Canada, and yesterday I saw a sticker advertising it in a store just around the corner. So I'm pretty sure it's still being sold here...

I have to know......why would anyone want to be wired and trashed at the same time? That can only lead to trouble.

I tasted RedBull, and it tastes like crap. I know, because I've tasted a lot of crap. Skip the energy drinks, they are very bad for you in the long run...does anyone know the long term effects of guarana or yohimbine? Or mega doses of caffeine? Skip 'em and stick to drinking "just a little less".

I asked because of Oslaue's "banned' comment and because I was sure I saw it available in Montreal in 2005. I do know that, in Canada at least, the can has a warning label on it.

Red Bull has the equivalent caffeine (9 mg/ml) of 1 cup of coffee - so drinking several RBs in a short period of time isn't the wisest of moves. It also contains taurine (an amino acid) which, in small doses, isn't a bad thing. But, in larger amounts (as in 5-10 RBs), it interferes with neurotransmission, especially in the brain. Add alcohol's effects to that and the brain really starts to misfire. Taurine is also used in the treatment of alcoholism as it slows the neurotransmissions in the brain and lessens the hallucinations and DTs.

Individuals who are prone to or have hypertension (elevated blood pressure) should not consume energy drinks containing ginsing. Ginsing naturally increases blood pressure and drinking several energy drinks can cause a spike in one's pressure, putting severe strain on the heart.

I guess if you are going to drink something that tastes that bad you might as well juice it up with alcohol. That way, you're a very wide-awake drunk with high blood pressure but no DTs...

Yohimbine is a stimulant that is used to reverse the effects of anesthesia. It's basically an almost instant waker-upper. Yeah - sign me up!!! :(

No Dear, the "long-term" effects....several years worth of clubbing, etc. Do you wind up looking like Britney Spears after one of her bashes?

You can get Redbull in Toronto at the corner store. Every supermarket. I see it at every club I know of. It was banned several years ago, but that was lifted. Don't know what Jeigerbombs taste like so I can't compare.

So that's Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal covered. The other Canadian cities don't matter.

Yeah - I got that part, but haven't had a chance to ask the dog for his latest lab report and he is looking a bit like Spears....

Yohimbine is also used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction though it's not very effective. Long term usage, as an herbal supplement, has lead to increasing anxiety over time. Continuous headaches are also a side effect of long term use as yohimbine causes a drop in blood pressure and pulls blood flow away from the brain. (Rather like Viagra.)
