Well you should not pay more than $20AUD a night at a hostel while you are in australia unless you are staying in a city which will go up from there. If you plan on that price average you should be ok if not better. Food depends if you cook at the hostel. If so food should be no more than $50 a week if you plan right. Eating out sky is the limit for what you want. Thailand is rather cheap costing about $5-7 USD a day for a hostel depending if you want AC of a ceiling fan the price will vary, but everything is negotiable so depending on you skills you can live cheap. Beer is expensive if you drink about 200 baht, so try and avoid that if you can, Thai whiskey is cheap but a nasty hangover. I ate food from the street costing about 20baht or 50cents USD at the time. Food was good but like anywhere use common sense if you eat it. Otherwise food on a budget should cost no more that $7-10 USD a day. If you plan on about $20 USD a day for everything you should be ok for the basics.
