I am setting off early feb to travel south and central America, and am so confused about these malaria tablest and was looking for some advice from you. Everyone has been telling me different things.
-what tablets should you use?
-Should I continue taking them for the whole time?
-Can you buy them whilst out there cheaper?
I am really after some advice from people who have done something similar in the past. I am then going to south east asia and there are some malaria areas there too. Should I buy enough tablets for there before I go, or are they cheaper in OZ?
Your doctor will be able to tell you whether you need them for the places you are intending to visit and which tablets are the best for your personal circumstances. It can work out cheaper to get the more expensive tablets as for example Malarone is more expensive but you don't need to take it for as long as say Larium so it may even work out slightly cheaper.
But depending on your health and history your doctor will be able to suggest which is the best one for you. I took Malarone while I was in the jungle in Borneo and I didn't have any side effects at all.
Oops....i came through china, nam, cambodia, laos, thailand, malaysia and borneo on the way to Oz and didnt take any anti-malarials! I did catch anything though, despite having a million and one bites.....guess i am lucky, or not since i did get pneumonia in laos!
