I am looking for some advice on credit cards to take travelling. I want to take one in case of emergency, but have no idea which one will be the best one to get. I was doing some research but there is quite a lot of conflicting stuff out there. I am kind of hoping someone else has already done this research.

If this makes a difference I will be travelling south and central america, New zealand, oz, fiji, singapore, indonesia, bangkok

Hi Elaine,

There's two main ones that are good for travelling: Nationwide and Liverpool Victoria. Both don't charge you anything for foreign transactions other than the standard visa/mc applied rate of 2.75% which is done regardless of card issuer. So you can use these cards abroad without any extra charges. Don't bother with Amex as not many places accept it. Visa and Mastercard generally have similar levels of acceptance so if you get one which is a Visa, to be absolutely sure you could get a backup Mastercard and just not use it unless they don't take your Visa.

But check with them first though as terms and conditions do tend to change quietly - last time I looked though these were the best.
