Hi,

I am going travelling in feb for approx 1 year, and would like to make a web page similar to My Space/ Windows Spaces etc.. to keep my freinds and family informed on my travels.. I would like to be able to upload phot's, create blogs and diary entries, also it would be good if they could leave me messages...

Does anyone else use such a site? if so which one?

:)

if you got some html skills and want to go the extra mile and have some cash on the side...then i recommend registering a domain and hosting, so easy for people to remember and refer to.

www.oakey.com

mine is with yahoo.com were i pay 8 dollars a month. i get lots of webspace and they also have free blogs, websites that interact with your site.

id probably only recommend the above if you got your own laptop and plan to travel with it...

i plan to do all my uploading myself on the those boring flights...i also do all my own web design and web development...nothing spectacular but beats any of the templates...

its just a thought if you have an interest on the web development side of things.

-snip-

if you want everything to be done for you then ill be lost there myself because there is a lot of choice out there...

[ Edit: Sorry, please don't encourage illegal behaviour. ]

Seems to me that TP can handle all of the features you mention; plus, it's free, and rather more user-friendly than the other services I'm aware of :)

Is this a rhetorical question? :) Travellerspoint does all that (and more! we've got spiffy travel maps that you can show off your itinerary on!) :) Click on your control panel to set up the various functionalities.

I personally did what oslaue recommended - built it all myself, but I'm a professional web developer (and wasn't aware of travellerspoint at the time I did that). :)
If you're not, I highly recommend not trying that way.

(On that note, oslaue: I'm pretty certain recommending copyright infringement with "crack codes" is frowned upon on this forum. I'd also recommend you read up on modern semantic and standards compliant webdesign, and leave dreamweaver far behind. It's a new century here (been so for quite a few years already!), and no one with any understanding of the intertubes should use such table-layout-enabling monstrosities ever again.)

I refuse to pay hundreds of pounds, euros, dollars for something I barely use!
If I use something on a daily basis then perhaps I might just considering in buying.

In relation to copyright laws, they never come looking for me, it would cost them more
Money to fly me to the usa, prosecute me blahh blahh blahh and then me to pay a shitty fine.

They are more interested in companys that abuse the copyright laws.

The dreamweaver route is a direction for anyone who is interested in debugging code and wants to learn something or has an interest in web design.

Compliance, standards with web design I am fully aware but my site does not cater for the visually impaired and deaf who use all kinds of weird and wonderful tools
to get to a website. Actually I know a lot about standards and compliance because I only recently completed the biggest Siebel implementation project for the
UK government. And even the government could not make there products perfect! To make a small change could have affected the applications overall functionality!
as well as change of design. Siebel application is a web based application too used by the government…this department was DWP.

i dont endorse piracy...but i can tell you how to get what you want without paying for it. its up to the individual if they carry out the naughty act or not...

I have only really used this site for the forum for the past month or so, I havent really explored the possibility of using it to set up a blog, but from first investigations it looks quite good... I may give it a go... Thanks for the suggestion.:)

I'll try and get my head around it before i set off..

Now there's an oxymoron if I ever heard one. I'm sorry, but offering stolen products to other users is well and truly not allowed on this site I'm afraid.

And on the original topic; yes Oakey, I think TP can do all that for you and glad to see you're giving it a go ;)

Being a total new-bee to the concept of blogs and such I was wondering if there was anyway I could post stories and photos but only allow access to them by my family and friends? Say by a secure password or something? Does such a site/option exist?

the freebie that they give on this website i dont think you can do, might be worth for them adding this feature?

but the whole idea of a blog is so that everyone can read it and see your wonderful photos! no user name / password is safe even with friends as emails get forwarded on.

the freebie tools on this site dont allow you to implement your code code either, this is to stop script kiddies from bringing down there services, spam etc.

You can use the Diary - it can be password protected. But I am not sure if it allows to import photos, though.
